Teen Summer Immersion Program

 

Content:

1. Who is eligible for this program?

Young people between the ages of 14 and 17. Student must possess a low intermediate to a high intermediate language level.

2. When does the 2008 program start?

Starts on June 30th, July 7th and July 14th

3. How long does it take?

The minimum length of time is two weeks, maximum four.

4. How much does the program cost?

In 2008 a two week program costs 900€, each additional week costs 420€.

5. What is included?

The program includes Spanish classes, full-board in a shared room, insurance, pick-up from train station, activities and excursions. The fees do not include transportation to Spain or pocket money.

6. What type of activities are included in the program?

Academia Hispanica activity plan includes all excursions and activities throughout the weekdays and weekends. Daily activities include cultural visits, sports and creative activities.

During the evenings students have free time to spend with their host families. Activities in the evenings are at the discretion of the host parents.

7. Are activities supervised?

Academia Hispanica takes our responsibility for your teenager very seriously. Our trained staff closely monitors all activities, outings and excursions. We have a very close student to staff ratio.

8. Where will my teen be staying?

Accommodation is with Spanish Host families. Accommodation begins the Sunday before the starting date of the course, and finishes on the Saturday after the course ends. Host Families will pick-up your teen upon arrival at the train station in Córdoba and drop-off students when they depart.
Our host families are responsible for supplying, changing and washing the bed linen and bath towels every week, and will wash and iron clothes and linen once a week. All the bedrooms are clean and tidy and have a desk where the student can study.

9. What happens if my teen becomes ill?

Academia Hispanica staff members and host families are responsible for looking out for the well-being of your child. If we suspect they are not feeling in top form, depending on the circumstances, we will recommend a visit to the doctor, a day of rest, or a trip to the hospital.
Parents must inform us of any medical issues we should be aware of on the registration form (diabetes, asthma, allergies, ect.). The school will keep parents informed at all times.

10. How will my teen arrive to Spain?

Included in the program is a Cordoba train station pick-up.
Arranging transportation to Cordoba is the responsibility of the parent. The city of Cordoba is easily reachable from the airports of either Sevilla (40 minutes by high speed train), Malaga (less than one hour by high speed train) or Madrid (90 mins by high speed train).

Academia Hispanica can arrange a pick-up at one of the above airports. This service includes a staff member pick-up from the airport and transport to the train station. Upon arrival in Cordoba the student will be transferred to their accommodation. The transfer fee includes the price of the train ticket.

11. How can I register my teen for this program?

Registration is easy, fill out the attached registration form and send in to us by fax, e-mail or mail. Upon registration, Academia Hispanica requires a deposit of 200€, this can be made by Credit Card, Bank Transfer or by Banker’s Check. Please provide proof of payment (i.e.. photocopy of check) with student’s name marked clearly.

12. What is the city of Cordoba like?

Cordoba is a beautiful, medium-sized city (320,000 inhabitants). It is peaceful and safe, and has a lot to offer: a variety of cultural events, both traditional and modern amenities, its world-famous monuments and its warm, sunny climate. It has been declared a world heritage city by UNESCO.
Cordoba is also an ideal place for a first contact with Spain and its cultural heritage. There are some interesting and beautiful walks, such as through the Jewish quarter (“La Judería”), or visiting a number Romanesque or Gothic churches dotted round the city.

13. How can I keep in contact with my teen while in Cordoba?

Students will have access to Internet connected computers to keep in touch with family and friends.
Parents may also contact students at their host family’s home. Student’s who wish to make outgoing phone calls must purchase a phone card so as not to incur phone charges to the host family.
Mail can be sent to students (with their name marked clearly) at the school’s address.
